Healthy Aug 2010 Give me therapy....Face Therapy What is it? We all get stressed out, but we don’t often realise the amount of tension we carry in our face. Face Therapy is a facial massage that aims to ‘unlock’ the face and release all visible sings of stress. The massage action works on connective tissue in the skin and ‘re-educates’ every muscle of the face to relax it. What can it do for me? Face Therapy promise to revive facial muscle tone around your face and make your skin glow. Most importantly you will ‘discover’ your own face. As the only attention I pay to mine is a quick slap of moisturiser or make-up every now and again, this sounded intriguing. What happened in the session? My therapist quizzed me on my lifestyle and medical history. Like a lot of people, I have trouble sleeping from time to time, and – as a working mum – I often rush around feeling stressed. Just lying on the couch – covered by a towel – while listening to soothing background music soon remedied any tension I was feeling. The therapist set to work giving me a tester of the six sessions that are recommended on the Face Therapy course. She used a mix of gentle tapping and firmer manipulation on my face – in some places, such as the area between my brows and at the sides of my mouth, this felt a bit uncomfortable. The therapist explained that this is where I hold the most tension, so with further sessions this would disappear. The verdict. I left the session feeling so relaxed I felt like I’d had a long sleep, so from that point of view my face was definitely less tense. My therapist told me that Face Therapy helps you to release that you may be regularly pulling particular facial expressions without even realising it. I am obviously frowning and clenching my teeth a lot – not a good look! So I’m thankful I found this out and will definitely be going back for more.
