Anna’s dream

It’s February 2006, on a very hot day.

I am in Africa, for my first meeting with the Bushmen from the Kalahari Desert. I don’t speak their language so I am just sitting there and observing them and wanting very much to initiate the contact through Touch. I am going to one of the woman who is the healer of the family. She cannot walk. She is paralyzed from the waist down so she is moving with just her hands. I am sitting next to her and gradually, carefully, touching her hands. She is looking at my hands not saying anything and then she starts to smile. She looks into my eyes very deeply with a beautiful smile on her face, which I will remember for a long time, and we stay like that looking at each other eyes, touching each other hands.

A year later, on my second visit, Anna (her name) told me with the help of a translator that through her life, she had a recurring dream of a white woman walking around the village and trying to communicate with her.

In her dream Anna felt frustrated as she couldn’t communicate with the woman due to the language barrier. So she was left watching the woman and hoping to get in touch with her somehow.

She told me that when I touched her hands for the first time she knew that I was the woman from her dream who finally was able to communicate with them, through Touch.
